NEWS AND VIEWS - AUGUST 2026

This was another productive month -- I managed to finish writing Masters of a Million Stars, which, if you haven't been keeping up, is the twelfth novel in the Signalverse series. I'm in the middle of proofreading and editing it now; I'm hoping to make it available to my patrons in a week or two. Not sure when it'll be up for sale on Amazon.

At almost 60,000 words, it's one of the longest Signalverse novels so far (only City of Strange Gods and the first two volumes of Jack and Miracle Girl are longer). But it's probably the least "Signalversish" novel in the series -- it takes place almost entirely in outer space, and only a few superhero characters, like the Star Marshal, appear. It's more of a science fiction adventure, really, than a superhero adventure. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing.

I'm probably going to take most of September off and start writing again in October. Like I mentioned last month, my next writing project will probably be Special Squad EX, which is another Signalverse novel, but after that, it's kind of up in the air. Maybe a short fantasy novel? Maybe another Sam Fortune novel? I've been reluctant to get back into the Sam Fortune series, because the first two books weren't exactly bestsellers, but none of my books have been selling lately, so I guess there's really no reason not to give the series another chance. Anyway, the next Sam Fortune book would be Sam Fortune and the Mysteries of Nineveh.

Oh, and I'm planning to release Hardcore on Amazon pretty soon, too.

But that's all I've got for writing news. Nothing really interesting going on in my day-to-day life -- I've been playing Suikoden Tierkreis, lifting weights, reading detective stories (working my way through a collection of Ross Macdonald short stories at the moment), and assembling a FieldStation42 install, among other things, but mostly I've been writing. Still unemployed, alas, and living off my meager savings. Got stung by a wasp the other day, that was fun.

I think that pretty much covers it. See you next month!
