NEWS AND VIEWS - JUNE 2026
Hi, everyone! Quite a bit of news to report this month.
First of all, my fantasy novel Lillandra was selected as a semi-finalist in the SPFBO contest, which was a nice surprise. It didn't make it to the finals, but it did receive a very positive review, which I really appreciated.
Second, my latest book, Signal City Adventures, which is a collection of seven short stories set in the Signalverse, is now available on Amazon. It's a neat little package, I think. Each of the stories stands on its own, more or less, so even if you haven't read any of the previous Signalverse books you should still be able to enjoy this one.
In other Signalverse news, I started writing the twelfth novel in the series, Masters of a Million Stars, earlier this month (I posted the first chapter to my Patreon). I'm about 12,000 words into it now, so I'm making pretty good progress. Hoping to finish it by the end of August.
Still getting Hardcore ready for publication. I'm thinking I'll probably release it in October. In the meantime, of course, you can read the whole thing at Royal Road (at least until I decide to take it down) or grab the ebook off my Patreon, if you're a paid subscriber. I've been a little down on it lately, but people do seem to like it; here's a review from Royal Road:
"This story gave me solid Fallout vibes, both from the mutants and zombies in the wastelands, to the quest-like progression, to the Pip-Boy perk-like skill naming scheme. :)
The pacing was enjoyable, the prose wasn't too wordy, and all story arcs were wrapped up nicely.
No numeric fluff from the progression system: the skills mattered, and every level up choice could be felt in some way.
No repetitive training or sparring arcs, either; progression was earned while advancing the plot.
All-in-all, well done. :)"
So if you're into LitRPGs and you don't mind some gore, it might be worth checking out.
I think that pretty much covers the writing stuff. As far as my day-to-day life, well, there's not much happening there. I finally got around to playing the Resident Evil 4 remake, and I started watching some classic 90s anime that I had never seen before (Visions of Escaflowne, Kare Kano), but I've been spending most of my spare time either writing or going on long walks. I'm getting pretty old and boring here.
That should do it. See you next month!
