NEWS AND VIEWS - JUNE 2021

WRITING NEWS

I haven't been getting much writing done lately, alas. For the last two years I've been sort of underemployed, which was bad for my bank account but which left me with a lot of time to write -- The Demon in the Metal, Sneak and the Shadow of Darkplanet, and The Brassfire Fleet were all written during this downtime. As of May, however, I'm back to work, and this new schedule, coupled with my ongoing insomnia (see my April update) has really been cutting into my writing time. I'm still working on the latest Signalverse novel, The White Ribbon and the Heart of the Night, but I've only been adding about 300 words a day. I guess it's better than nothing, but I really wish I could do better.

Nothing else to report, I'm afraid. Still haven't received any real feedback on The Demon in the Metal or The Brassfire Fleet, which is disappointing, but not really surprising at this point. I'm really bad at getting these books in front of people.

VISTAS

As I mentioned, I've been back to work now since around the middle of May, installing new meters and load control equipment for the local power company. We're way out in western Minnesota, so most of the places we visit are lake cabins, farms, and rural homesteads. In my spare moments I've been taking pictures of some of these places. Here's some bucolic scenery.

The guy in that last picture is my dad (we work together), who is having a staring contest with a friendly cow. Not sure why the cow was just roaming around free at this place, but this is the kind of thing that happens out in the country.
